Tricks for Therapy Work, Musical Freestyle and Fun

Prerequisite: Puppy Preschool, Puppy Enrichment, Elementary or Intermediate Clicker classes recommended, although not required.

Tricks are a great way to interact with your dog in a positive way and provide training. Even though we humans place value on some behaviors over others, remember, they’re all tricks to the dog! Because tricks are fun to teach, they help people to relax and learn about training, communication and building a responsive relationship with their dog.

Tricks can be used to enhance so many parts of our lives with dogs. Therapy Dog visits can be enhanced by including a cute trick or two to cheer participants. Learning some of the basic tricks of Musical Canine Freestyle is an important foundation to get ready to put together your first Freestyle routine. Sometimes it’s just fun to entertain family and friends with our dog’s clever behaviors. It’s heartwarming to see the smile on people’s faces when your dog impresses them with a trick!

Some tricks that we’ll teach in this class include: Roll over, spin, back-up, up pretty, bow, weave your legs, shake, wave, ah-chew (dog gets a tissue for you!), jump through your legs or arms; bang-bang-your-dead, paw touches and plenty more! Be ready to have loads of fun!
