We’re also thrilled to have Ramona joining us.

Prerequisites:

Handlers must have completed one of the following prerequisites in order to register for a working spot in this Seminar:

  1. Completed Intro to Nose Work and Nose Work2 (Intro to Odor) classes; or
  2. Attended the Intro to Nose Work & Intro to Odor Workshops and completed the homework assignments.

About the speakers:

Barbara Schwerdt has been working with her rescued, German Shepherd, Landis in Nose Work since he was a puppy. Landis is now the top-scoring dog in NACSW Nose Work Trails and earned his NW1 and NW2 in 2009. He was one of only six dogs eligible to compete for the NW3 title and missed it by a mere 2 points! Barbara was one of the first seven instructors to complete her certification in the K9 Nose Work/NACSW Instructors program in early 2009. She is a lead trainer for My Best Friend Obedience in Southern California, has earned her CPDT designation through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, is a AKC CGC evaluator, and has founded Amante Dog Training, a division of Safe at Home Pet Care, a business Barbara owns with her husband Gerry. They specialize in in-home care of companion animals and are now also providing dog-training services. She is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, the National Association of Canine Scent Work, and the American Society for Training and Development. Find out more about Barbara at www.funnosework.com.

Ramona Audette is the Training Director of California Academy of Dog Behavior. She has been training dogs professionally since 1993 and has been involved with dogs, one way or another, her whole life. She believes dogs learn best when they feel good and when training is fun. She attends training and behavior seminars regularly, including seminars offered by Pia Silvani, Trish King, Donna Duford, Sue Sternberg, Patricia McConnell, Terry Ryan, Kathy Sdao, and the guru of operant conditioning, Bob Bailey, to name a few.

Ramona worked nine years at Guide Dogs of America in Sylmar where she was responsible for helping foster families that took adorable 8 week old pups home to raise to be guide dogs. She continues to be involved with GDA and the Puppy Raisers that foster their pups.

Ramona has also put Obedience titles (up to a Utility title - UD), Rally titles (up to a Rally Advanced Excellent - RAE) and Agility titles (up to Excellent in both Standard and Jumpers) on several dogs. She continues to compete with her own dogs. She is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, Southern California Dog Trainers Forum and is an AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluator. She shares her home with her husband of 30 yrs and 5 Labrador Retrievers. To learn more about Ramona, go to her website at www.cadogbehavior.com.
