Why You Should Train Your Dog In All Settings

Training your dog in the same setting could get boring for your dog! See why you should train your dog in all settings!

Why You Should Train Your Dog In All Settings

Hi this is Wesley again from Thousand Hills Pet Resort and Gentle Touch Pet Training. And this Training Tip Tuesday I want to talk about generalization. One of the most frequently heard statements or asked questions is "why does my dog do this in this setting but not when we're in this other setting?" The reason for that is that you have to generalize your training.

Consider the world your training grounds. Everywhere you go you have an opportunity to train. So don't just train your dog in the kitchen. Train your dog in the living room, in the backyard, on the porch, in the front yard, down the street, at the park, and all those types of things.

You don't want your dog to get stuck thinking they only have to sit or stay in a particular area that they use all the time. Generalizing your training will be fun for both you and your dog. It will keep training exciting and you'll continue building your bond. Thank you!
