Rally is like a board game where the team walks to each station in a heel position and completes the exercise requested. Handlers are allowed to talk and/or use hand signals to show their dog what is expected at each station.

Who is this class for?

Rally is a sport that is open to anyone who wants to achieve a higher level of training with their dog but also wants to have a lot of fun while doing it!

About the Instructor

Judy Peterson has had a passion for animals since her childhood. She had cats until she was in a position where she could have a dog. Since day 1 of having a dog, she fell in love with training.  Her first dog was a Wire-coat Dachshund. They competed in agility, competition obedience and rally obedience. She got a rescue Cardigan Welsh Corgi a couple of years later who was very fearful. She learned how to work her through her fears and competed with her on agility and rally obedience. She was taking classes with both dogs at Jump Start Dog Sports in Yorba Linda and soon after the owner of JSDS asked her if she would interested in teaching. That was in 1999 and she has been passionate about teaching since then. She has taught Basic Home Manners, Intro to Performance Sports, Rally Obedience, Canine Good Citizen Prep and Testing (a CGC/Tricks Evaluator since 2000), AKC Scentwork, and Tricks.

She participates in and has numerous titles in many dogs sports including agility, completion obedience, Rally Obedience, Barnhunt, NASDA, Nosework, AKC Scent work, AKC Tricks, Dachshund Field trials, Farm Dog Certification, Canine Good Citizen, Urban Canine Cood Citizen, and Community Canine Good Citizen.

Judy currently has 4 dogs - 3 are actively competing in Nosework, Scent work, Barnhunt, NASDA, and Rally. Her 4th dogs is almost 14 and has retired from dog sports. She is a Wire-coat Dachshund - Brooke; a rescue terrier mix - Ivy; and 2 Chinese Cresteds - Asia and Willow (retired). Judy handles her own dogs and has been a handler for other breeds in agility, competition obedience, Barnhunt and Rally Obedience. She is also an AKC Scentwork and ASCA Detection Dog Judge.
